Vehicle Weight
Refer to this section for proper vehicle loading so that the rated design values for loading the vehicle are not exceeded or surpassed. With proper loading, the driving behavior of your vehicle is least affected. Before driving the vehicle (with or without a trailer) with cargo, familiarize yourself with the following terms, which can be found in the technical data or on the vehicle. The vehicle weight specified on the certification label can be determined as follows:
Curb Weight without Optional Equipment
This weight is the weight of the vehicle with a full fuel tank, including standard equipment. This weight indication does not include passengers, cargo, and optional equipment.
Curb Weight with Optional Equipment
This weight is the weight of the vehicle as delivered, i.e., including any optional equipment.
Payload
This value includes the weight of all items not included in the curb weight without optional equipment, such as cargo and optional vehicle equipment.
Axle Load
This weight figure summarizes the weight on the respective axle (front or rear axle), which consists of the curb weight with optional equipment and the total payload.
Permissible Axle Load
This value indicates the maximum permissible load on one axle (front or rear axle). For details, see the certification label.
The maximum permissible axle load must never be exceeded.
Gross Vehicle Weight
This value is calculated from the curb weight without optional equipment and payload, including the weight of the driver.
Maximum Permissible Gross Vehicle Weight
This weight is the maximum permissible vehicle weight (including all optional equipment, i.e., passengers and cargo). The maximum permissible gross weight is shown on the certification label, located on the driver's or passenger's side door pillar.

WARNING
Vehicle Weight
Information on the maximum permissible axle loads and the maximum permissible gross vehicle weight of your vehicle can be found on the label on the driver's and passenger's door. Exceeding these values may cause an accident and damage to the vehicle. To determine the payload, weigh individual items (and people) before loading. Make sure your vehicle is not overloaded.
