Use High-Quality Ethylene Glycol Based Coolant
The engine cooling system of your vehicle is filled at the factory with high-quality ethylene glycol based coolant. Only this coolant should be used. It protects the cooling system from corrosion, lubricates the coolant pump, and prevents the cooling system from freezing. Be sure to use the engine coolant specified in the maintenance schedule. Refer to "Cooling System" on page 8-43 for details, or refill as required.
Check the engine coolant reserve in winter to make sure the freezing point is sufficient for the expected winter temperatures.
Battery and Battery Cable Test
The battery is under greater load in winter. Perform a visual inspection of the battery and wiring as described on page 8-67. Have the battery's state of charge checked by a qualified workshop. Kia recommends visiting a Kia dealer or authorized service partner.
Use winter engine oil if necessary.
In certain climates, the use of special low-viscosity winter oils is recommended for low temperatures. Refer to "Recommendations" on page 9-12. If you are not sure which oil you should use, consult a Kia dealer or authorized service partner.
spark plugs and ignition system test
Inspect the spark plugs as described in 8-43 and replace them if necessary. Also inspect the wiring and other components of the ignition system for cracks, wear and other damage.
