When planning to tow a trailer
Please observe the following important points when planning to tow a trailer:
- Consider using a sway control device. Obtain information from your trailer dealer.
- Do not tow a trailer during the first 2,000 km with your vehicle so that the engine can break in properly. If you do not observe this note, the engine or transmission may be seriously damaged.
- Für den Anhängerbetrieb sollten Sie sich an einen Kia-Vertragshändler/ Servicepartner wenden, um die zusätzliche Ausrüstung, zum Beispiel ein Abschleppset, zu erhalten.
- Always drive at a moderate speed (up to 100 km/h).
- Do not drive faster than 70 km/h on long uphill grades. Observe the towing speed limit if it is lower.

Trailer weight

B: Gesamtgewicht Anhänger
What is the maximum trailer weight? The trailer weight must not exceed the maximum permissible gross trailer weight.
However, this may already be too much. The maximum weight depends on how you use your trailer. For example, speed, altitude of the area of use, steepness of grades, outside temperature and frequency of towing play an important role. The trailer weight may also depend on the special optional equipment of your vehicle.
Tongue weight

A: Gross axle weight
B: Fahrzeug-Gesamtgewicht
The tongue weight of a trailer is an important value because it affects the gross weight of the towing vehicle. The gross weight consists of the curb weight of the towing vehicle, the weight of the cargo and the weight of the occupants. When towing, the tongue weight of the trailer must be added to the gross weight, because the additional tongue weight loads the towing vehicle just like additional cargo.
Taking the maximum permissible tongue weight into account, the tongue weight must not exceed 10% of the weight of the loaded trailer. Check the tongue weight of your trailer after loading it. If the measured tongue weight does not match the specification, it can be corrected by shifting the trailer load forward or backward.
WARNING
Trailer
- Never load a trailer heavier at the rear than at the front. Distribute the load so that approx. 60% of the weight is in front of the axle and approx. 40% behind the axle of the trailer.
- Never exceed the maximum permissible weights of the trailer and/or the towing device. Both overloading and improper loading of a trailer can cause property damage and personal injury. Have the gross weight and load condition checked on a public vehicle scale.
- Ein falsch beladener Anhänger kann dazu führen, dass Sie die Kontrolle über das Gespann verlieren.
