The heating and cooling system can be controlled manually by pressing buttons other than the AUTO button. In this case, the system operates in sequence according to the order of the selected buttons.

When any button (or any knob) other than the AUTO button is pressed during automatic operation, the unselected functions will continue to be controlled automatically.

1. Start the engine.

2. Set the mode to the desired position. For improved efficiency, heating and cooling: - Heating:- Cooling:

3. Set the temperature control to the desired position.

4. Set the air intake control to the outside (fresh) air position.

5. Set the fan speed control to the desired speed.

6. If air conditioning is required, turn the air conditioning system on.

Press the AUTO button to return to full automatic control of the system.

Mode Selection

The mode selection button controls the direction of airflow through the ventilation system.

The airflow outlet is changed as follows:

Refer to the illustration in the "Climate Control System" section on page 4-88.

Floor and Defrost (A, C, D, E)

Most of the airflow is directed to the floor and windshield, with a small amount directed to the side window defrosters.

Face Level (B, D)

The air flow is directed to the upper body and face. In addition, each vent can be adjusted to direct the air discharged from the vent.

Bi-Level (B, D, C, E)

Airflow is directed to the face and floor.

Floor (C, A, D, E)

Most of the airflow is directed to the floor, with a small amount of air directed to the windshield and side window defrosters.

Defrost Mode

When the defrost mode is selected, the following system settings will be made automatically:

  • The air conditioning system will be turned on.
  • The outside (fresh) air position will be selected.
  • The fan speed will be set to maximum speed.

To turn off the defrost mode, press the mode button or the defrost button again, or press the AUTO button.

Instrument Panel Vents

The outlet can be opened or closed individually using the horizontal adjustment ring. To close the vent, turn it down to the maximum position. To open the vent, turn it up to the desired position.

You can also adjust the direction of the airflow from these vents using the vent control lever, as shown in the illustration.

Temperature Control

To set the temperature to maximum (HI), turn the knob fully clockwise (to the right).

To set the temperature to minimum (Lo), turn the knob fully counterclockwise (to the left).

Each turn of the knob increases or decreases the temperature by 0.5 °C/ 1°F. When set to the lowest temperature setting, the air conditioner will operate continuously.

Temperature Unit Conversion

You can switch the temperature unit between Celsius and Fahrenheit as follows:

While pressing and holding the OFF button, press the AUTO button for 4 seconds or more.

The display will change from Celsius to Fahrenheit or from Fahrenheit to Celsius.

If the battery is discharged or disconnected, the temperature display will return to the Celsius scale.

Air Intake Control

Used to select the outside air (fresh) air or recirculated air position.

To change the air intake control position, press the control button.

Recirculated Air Position

With the recirculation air position selected, air from the cabin will be drawn through the heating system and heated or cooled according to the selected function.

Outside (Fresh) Air Position

When the outside (fresh) air position is selected, air is drawn in from outside the vehicle and heated or cooled according to the selected function.

NOTICE

Prolonged operation of the heater in the recirculation air position (without A/C) may cause the windshield and side windows to fog, and the cabin air may become stale.

Also, prolonged use of air conditioning in recirculation mode will cause excessively dry air inside the vehicle.

WARNING

  • Continued operation of the climate control system in the recirculation position may increase humidity inside the vehicle, which may fog the windows and reduce visibility.
  • Do not sleep in the vehicle with the air conditioning or heating on. This may cause serious injury or death due to low oxygen levels and/or body temperature.
  • Continued operation of the climate control system in the recirculation position may cause drowsiness and loss of control of the vehicle. Set the air intake control to the outside (fresh) air position as much as possible while driving.

Blower Speed Control

The fan speed can be adjusted to the desired speed by operating the fan speed control knob.

The higher the fan speed, the greater the volume of air delivered.

Pressing the OFF button turns off the blower.

Air Conditioning (A/C)

Press the A/C button to turn the air conditioning system on (the indicator will illuminate).

Press the button again to turn off the air conditioning system.

OFF Mode

Press the OFF button to turn off the climate control system. However, you can still operate the air intake buttons while the ignition switch is in the ON position.
