WARNING - Loose objects Loose objects in the area of the driver's feet may interfere with pedal operation and cause an accident. Do not place anything under the front seats. WARNING - Raising the seatback When raising the seatback to the upright position, hold the seatback and turn it slowly, and make sure no other passengers are near the seat. If the seatback is released and allowed to move uncontrolled, it may spring forward and cause injury to another person. WARNING - Driver responsibility for front passenger Driving with the front seatback reclined may result in serious or fatal injury in a collision. If the front seat is reclined during a collision, the passenger's hips may slide under the belt, applying very large forces to the unprotected abdomen. This may result in serious or fatal internal injuries. The driver should advise the front passenger to keep the seatback upright whenever the vehicle is moving.
WARNING Do not use a seat cushion that reduces friction between the seat and the occupant. In an accident or sudden braking, the occupant's hips may slide under the lap portion of the seat belt. Serious internal injuries or death may result, because the seat belt cannot function normally. WARNING - Driver's seat- Never adjust the seat while driving. You may lose control of the vehicle and cause an accident resulting in death, serious injury or property damage.
- Do not allow anything to block the normal position of the seatback.
Carrying items pressed against the seatback or otherwise preventing it from being properly positioned may cause serious or fatal injury in case of sudden braking or an accident.
- Always drive and ride with the seatback upright and the lap portion of the seat belt fitted snugly around the hips.
This is the best position to protect you in an accident.
- To avoid unnecessary injuries caused by the airbag, which can be serious, always sit as far from the steering wheel as possible while keeping a comfortable position for driving the vehicle. It is recommended that your chest be at least 250 mm (10 inches) from the steering wheel.
- The seatback must be securely locked. Otherwise, occupants or objects may be thrown forward, causing serious injury or death in case of sudden braking or an accident.
- Luggage or other cargo should be laid flat in the luggage compartment. If items are large, heavy or stacked, secure them. Under no circumstances may cargo be stacked higher than the seatbacks.
Failure to observe these warnings may result in serious injury or death in case of sudden braking, an accident or a rollover.
- While the vehicle is moving, no passenger should ride in the cargo area or sit or lie on folded-down seatbacks. All passengers must be seated and properly secured with their seat belts while driving.
- When raising the seatback to the upright position, make sure it is securely locked by moving it forward and backward.
- To avoid possible burns, do not remove the floor covering from the cargo area. The emission control system below this floor produces very high exhaust gas temperatures.
- When moving the seat, take special care that no objects or hands get into the seat mechanisms.
- Do not place a lighter on the floor or on the seat.
While operating the seat, gas may escape from the lighter and cause a fire.
