SRS maintenance
In this manual: SRS maintenance
~2min read
The SRS is truly a maintenance-free system, as it contains no parts that require user servicing. If the SRS warning light
does not come on or stays on continuously,
take the vehicle to an authorized Kia dealer immediately to have the SRS system inspected.
Any work on the SRS, such as removal, installation, repair or other steering wheel-related work, must be performed by an authorized Kia dealer. Improper handling of the SRS may cause serious injury.
WARNING- Making changes to SRS components or their wiring, including installing any metal ornaments on the airbag covers or modifying the mounting of these components, may adversely affect SRS performance and increase the risk of injury.
- To clean airbag covers, use only soft, dry cloths that may be lightly dampened with clean water.
Solvents or cleaning agents may adversely affect the airbag covers and the proper deployment of the system.
- Do not place any object on the airbag modules in the steering wheel or on the dashboard above the glove box, as any such object may cause injury if the vehicle strikes something with enough force to deploy the airbags.
- If the airbags have deployed, they must be replaced by an authorized Kia dealer.
- Never tamper with SRS components or disconnect their wiring. Attempting such work may result in injury from accidental airbag deployment or in the SRS being disabled.
- If it becomes necessary to dismantle airbag system components or scrap the vehicle, specific precautions must be taken. Contact an authorized Kia dealer for the necessary information on these precautions.
Failure to observe these precautions and instructions may increase the risk of injury.
- If the vehicle has been flooded and has wet carpets or water is standing on the floor, do not attempt to start the engine; the vehicle should be towed to an authorized Kia dealer.
