Seat Belt Care

~1min read

The seat belt system must never be disassembled or modified. In addition, make sure the seat belts are not damaged by seat or door hinges and are not used for purposes other than their intended use.

WARNING When raising the rear seatbacks to the upright position after folding them down, take care not to damage the seat belt webbing or buckles. Make sure the seat belts and their buckles are not caught or pinched in the rear seat. A seat belt with damaged webbing or buckle may not function properly in a traffic accident or sudden stop, which may result in serious personal injury.

If the seat belt webbing or buckle is damaged, replace it immediately.

Periodic Inspection

All seat belts should be inspected periodically for wear or any kind of damage. Any damaged parts should be replaced as soon as possible.

Keep Belts Dry and Clean

Seat belts should be kept dry and clean. If the belts become dirty, they can be cleaned with a solution of mild soap and warm water. Do not use bleach, dyes, strong detergents or abrasive materials, as they may damage and weaken the webbing.

When to Replace Seat Belts

If the vehicle was involved in an accident, replace the complete seat belt assemblies that were in use at the time. Do this even if no damage is visible. For additional questions about seat belt operation, contact an authorized Kia dealer.
