The gauges and meters of the Lexus GS combine design and function. The digital speedometer, analog gauges, and multi-information display provide clear information on speed, engine speed, fuel level, and more. The individual settings for lighting and pop-up warning messages are especially convenient. This chapter helps you make the best use of all displays and fully experience the premium character of the Lexus GS.

Requirements for the Instrument Panel and Indicator Lights

The engine switch is in the IGNITION ON mode.

Customizing the Instrument Panel Brightness

The brightness of the instrument panel lights can be adjusted individually for when the tail lights are on and off. However, when the surroundings are bright (daytime, etc.), turning on the tail lights does not change the instrument panel brightness.

Limitations of Brightness Adjustment

The brightness of the instrument panel lights is automatically adjusted to the ambient brightness using the light sensor. However, if the instrument panel brightness has been set manually to either the brightest or darkest level, automatic adjustment does not take place.

Outside Temperature Display

  • In the following situations, the outside temperature may not be displayed correctly, or the display may take longer than usual to change.
When the vehicle is stopped or being driven at low speed (less than 20 km/h). When the outside temperature changes very suddenly (when driving into or out of a garage, a tunnel, etc.).
  • If "--" or "E" is displayed, the system may be malfunctioning. Have your vehicle inspected by a Lexus dealer or repair shop, or another qualified and properly equipped workshop.

Pop-up Messages

  • In some cases, a pop-up message is temporarily displayed on the Multi-Information Display or on the odometer/trip meter/maintenance required reminder screen.
  • You can turn some pop-up messages on or off.

Liquid Crystal Display

Small dots or points of light may appear on the display. This is typical of liquid crystal displays and does not affect continued use of the display.

Clock Settings

If the screen shown on the right appears while you are trying to change the clock display format usingon the Multi-Information Display, the system may be malfunctioning.

Have your vehicle inspected immediately by a Lexus dealer or repair shop, or another qualified and properly equipped workshop.

Customization

You can customize the instrument display on the Multi-Information Display to suit your needs.

WARNING

Information Display in Low Temperatures

Before using the liquid crystal information display, allow the vehicle interior to warm up. At very low temperatures, the information display may respond slowly and switch displays with a delay.

For example, there may be a delay between the driver shifting gears and the new gear being shown on the display. This delay may cause the driver to downshift again, resulting in sudden and excessive engine braking and, consequently, an accident causing death or serious injury.

NOTE

To Avoid Damage to the Engine and Its Components

  • Make sure the tachometer needle does not enter the red zone, which indicates the maximum engine speed.
  • The engine may overheat if the engine coolant temperature gauge is in the red zone (H). In this case, stop the vehicle immediately in a safe place and check the engine after it has completely cooled down.

The displays and instruments of the Lexus GS (4th Gen) combine modern design with the highest level of functionality. They give the driver all important information at a glance, from engine speed to outside temperature. The customizable display can be optimally adapted to personal preferences.

With its clear layout and high-quality technology, readability is always assured. This makes every kilometer in the Lexus GS a safe and comfortable experience.
