Event Data Recorders

~2min read

This vehicle is equipped with an event data recorder. The main purpose of an event data recorder is to record data that helps in understanding how the vehicle's systems performed during certain collisions or near-collisions, such as airbag deployment or contact with road obstacles.

The event data recorder is designed to record vehicle dynamics and safety system data for a short period, generally 30 seconds or less. The event data recorder in this vehicle is designed to record data such as:

  • how the various systems in your vehicle are operating;
  • whether the driver and passenger seat belts are buckled;
  • how far the accelerator pedal or brake pedal is pressed;
  • vehicle speed;
  • sounds are not recorded

This data helps to better understand the circumstances in which collisions and injuries occur. Note: Data is stored in the event data recorder of your vehicle only in the event of a significant collision; the recorder does not store any data under normal driving conditions, and no personal data (e.g., name, gender, age, collision location) is stored. However, third parties, such as police agencies, may combine the recorder data with the personal identification data normally collected during a collision investigation.

Special equipment is required to read the data stored by the event data recorder, and access to the vehicle or the recorder is necessary. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer and NISSAN dealers, third parties, such as police agencies, who have the special equipment can read the data if they have access to the vehicle or the recorder.

Data stored by the recorder will only be accessed with the consent of the owner or lessee, or as required or permitted by law.
