Preparing for Inspection and Maintenance Tests

~1min read

Regulations in some Canadian provinces and U.S. states require your vehicle to be in "ready" condition for emission control system inspection and maintenance tests.

The vehicle reaches "ready" condition after certain types of driving cycles. In general, the "ready" condition is reached during normal vehicle use.

If a powertrain component is repaired or the battery is disconnected, the vehicle may be reset to a "not ready" condition. Before an inspection and maintenance test, make sure the vehicle is in "ready" condition. Turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine. If the malfunction indicator light stays on for 20 seconds and then flashes for 10 seconds, the vehicle is in a "not ready" condition for the inspection and maintenance test. If the malfunction indicator light does not flash after 20 seconds, the vehicle is in "ready" condition for the test. Contact a NISSAN dealer to reset the vehicle to "ready" condition or to prepare the vehicle for retesting.
