Choosing how to fit the child seat

Sièges enfant dos à la route
Rear-facing child seats

A baby's head is proportionally heavier than an adult's and their neck is very fragile. Keep the child in this position for as long as possible (until at least 2 years of age).

It supports the head and neck.

Choose an enveloping seat for better side protection, and replace it as soon as the child's head extends beyond the shell.

Forward-facing child seats

A child's head and abdomen are the priority areas to protect. A forward-facing child seat securely fixed to the vehicle reduces the risk of head impact. Carry your child in a forward-facing seat with a harness or shield for as long as their size allows.

Booster seats

From 15 kg or 4 years of age, the child may travel on a booster seat, which allows the seat belt to be adapted to their body size. The booster seat base must have guides that position the belt across the child's thighs and not across the stomach. A height-adjustable backrest fitted with a belt guide is recommended to position the belt across the middle of the shoulder. It must never be across the neck or the arm.

Choose an enveloping seat for better side protection.

There are two ways to fix child seats: with the seat belt or with the ISOFIX system.

Fixing with the seat belt

The seat belt must be adjusted so that it performs its function in the event of sudden braking or an impact.

Follow the belt routing specified by the child seat manufacturer.

Always check that the seat belt is latched by pulling on it, then tighten it as much as possible while pressing down on the child seat.

Check that the seat is held firmly by moving it left/right and forward/backward: the seat must remain securely fixed.

Check that the child seat is not installed crooked and that it does not rest against a window.

pas de siègeDo not use
a child seat that could unlatch the belt restraining it: the base of the seat must not rest on the belt buckle and/or tongue.d’utiliser un siègeBefore
using an ISOFIX child seat that you have acquired for another vehicle, make sure its installation is approved for this vehicle.

Check the list of vehicles that can accommodate the seat with the equipment manufacturer.

de sécurité neThe seat belt
must never be released or twisted. Never route it under the arm or behind the back.

Check that the belt is not damaged by sharp edges.

If the seat belt does not work normally, it cannot protect the child.

Consult a brand representative. Do not use this seat position until the seat belt has been repaired.

ISOFIX child seat anchorage system

ISOFIX child seats approved under regulation ECE-R44 are permitted in one of the following three cases:

  • ISOFIX universal, 3-point, forward-facing;
  • ISOFIX semi-universal, 2-point;
  • vehicle-specific.

For the last two types, check that your child seat can be installed by consulting the list of compatible vehicles.

Attach the child seat using the ISOFIX latches when it is equipped with them. The ISOFIX system provides easy, fast and secure installation.

The ISOFIX system consists of 2 anchorages and, in some cases, a third anchorage.

modification ne doitNo
modifications must be made to the original system components: seat belts, ISOFIX and seats, as well as their anchorages.

The two anchorages 1 are located between the seat back and the seat cushion and are marked.

The third anchorage is used to attach the top tether of certain child seats: hook the tether hook 4 onto anchorage 3 for a rear seat, or onto anchorage 5 for a front seat, then tighten the strap.

ancrages ISOFIX ont été exclusivement mis au point pour les siègesThe
ISOFIX anchorages have been designed exclusively for child seats with an ISOFIX system. Never attach other child seats, seat belts or other objects to these anchorages.

Make sure nothing obstructs the anchorage points.

If the vehicle has been involved in a road accident, have the ISOFIX anchorages checked and replace your child seat.
