Connecting a charger

~2min read

The charger must be compatible with a 12-volt nominal battery.

With the engine off, disconnect the cables from both battery terminals, starting with the negative terminal.

Do not disconnect the battery while the engine is running. Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer of the battery charger you are using.

Jump-starting with another vehicle's battery

Démarrage avec la batterie d’un autre véhicule

To start the vehicle, if you need to use another vehicle's battery, obtain suitable heavy-gauge jump leads from a brand representative or, if you already have jump leads, make sure they are in good condition.

Both batteries must have the same nominal voltage: 12 volts. The supplying battery must have a capacity (ampere-hour, Ah) at least equal to that of the discharged battery.

Make sure there is no contact between the two vehicles (short-circuit risk when connecting the positive terminals) and that the discharged battery is properly connected. Switch off the ignition of your vehicle.

Start the engine of the vehicle supplying power and run it at medium speed.

Connect the positive (+) cable A to the (+) terminal 1 of the discharged battery, then to the (+) terminal 2 of the battery supplying power.

Connect the negative (–) cable B to the (–) terminal 3 of the battery supplying power, then to the (–) terminal 4 of the discharged battery.

Check that there is no contact between cables A and B, and that cable A (+) is not in contact with any metal part of the vehicle supplying power.

Start the engine as usual.

Once the engine is running, disconnect cables A and B in reverse order (4-3-2-1).

! Some batteries may have specific charging requirements; seek advice from your brand representative. Avoid any risk of sparks, which could cause an immediate explosion, and charge in a well-ventilated area. Risk of serious injury.
