The following advice will help you carry out temporary roadside repairs quickly; for safety, consult a Brand Representative as soon as possible.

You operate the starter POSSIBLE CAUSES WHAT TO DO
The warning lamps are dim or do not come on, the starter does not turn. Battery terminals loose, disconnected or corroded. Tighten them, reconnect them or clean them if they are corroded.
Battery flat or faulty. Connect another battery to the faulty battery. Refer to the 'Battery: troubleshooting' section in chapter 5 or replace the battery if necessary. Do not push the vehicle if the steering column is locked.
The engine will not start. Starting conditions not met. Refer to the 'Starting, stopping the engine' section in chapter 2.
The steering column remains locked. Steering wheel locked. To unlock, turn the key and steering wheel (refer to the 'Starter switch' section in chapter 2).
On the road POSSIBLE CAUSES WHAT TO DO
Vibrations. Tyres under-inflated, unbalanced or damaged. Check the tyre pressures; if this is not the cause, have the tyres' condition checked by a Brand Representative.
Bubbling in the coolant reservoir. Mechanical fault: cylinder head gasket damaged. Switch off the engine.

Contact a Brand Representative.

Smoke from under the bonnet. Short circuit or leak in the cooling system. Stop, switch off the ignition, move away from the vehicle and call a Brand Representative.
The oil pressure warning lamp comes on:
  • when cornering or braking
  • takes a long time to go out or stays on when accelerating

The level is too low.

Insufficient oil pressure.

Add engine oil (refer to the 'Engine oil level: topping up, filling' section in chapter 4).

Stop and call a Brand Representative.

White smoke from the exhaust. This is not necessarily a fault; the smoke comes from regeneration of the particulate filter. Refer to the 'Diesel version specifics' section in chapter 2.
On the road POSSIBLE CAUSES WHAT TO DO
The steering becomes stiff. Assistance overheating. Consult a Renault dealer
The engine is overheating. The coolant temperature gauge and the STOP warning lamp come on. Cooling fan fault. Stop the vehicle, switch off the engine and call a Brand Representative.
Coolant leaks. Check the coolant reservoir: it must contain coolant. If it is empty, consult a Brand Representative as soon as possible.
! Radiator: If the coolant level is low, never top up with cold coolant when the engine is very hot. After any work on the vehicle requiring the cooling system to be drained, even partially, it must be refilled with a new, correctly proportioned mixture. We remind you that it is imperative to use only a product approved by our Technical Departments.
Electrical equipment POSSIBLE CAUSES WHAT TO DO
The windscreen wiper does not work. Wiper blades stuck. Free the blades before using the windscreen wiper.
Faulty electrical circuit. Consult a Renault dealer.

Indicators flash faster than normal. Bulb blown. Replace the bulb.
The indicator lights no longer work. Faulty electrical circuit. Consult a Renault dealer.
The headlamps do not come on or do not go off. Faulty electrical circuit or control. Consult a Renault dealer.
Condensation inside the lamps. This is not a fault. Condensation marks are a natural phenomenon linked to temperature variations.

These marks will disappear quickly when the lights are used.
