DEPOSE

REMOVAL

Remove:

  • the drum (see relevant section),
  • the upper return spring (see section "Brake lining").

Spread the shoes.

Unscrew:

  • the rigid pipe union from the wheel cylinder using a flare nut spanner,
  • the two cylinder fixing bolts from the backplate, and remove it.

Check the condition of the shoes; if they show signs of oil in particular, replace them.

INSTALLATION

Clean the drums and linings with brake cleaner.

Refit in reverse order of removal.

Bleed the brake circuit (see chapter 38).

Adjust the linings by repeatedly applying the brake pedal.

Check the cut-off pressure (see chapter 37 "Controls").
