Train arrière quatre barres

The rear axle consists of:

  • two arms connected by an "L"-shaped profile. This assembly (1) cannot be disassembled. Any deformation requires complete replacement,
  • two anti-roll bars (3),
  • two suspension bars (4),
  • a cross member (2) connecting the bars.

The assembly is connected to the body via two bearings mounted on elastic bushings.

NOTE: it is forbidden to place a jack under the "L"-shaped profile (1) to lift the vehicle.

REMOVAL

Remove:

  • the wheels,
  • the shock absorbers,
  • the suspension bar end seals.

Extract with tool Emb. 880:

  • the two suspension bars,
  • the two anti-roll bars, removing the central cross member.

Clean and grease the bar splines with MOLYKOTE BR2 grease.

INSTALLATION

Anti-roll bars cannot be disassembled on vehicles with the shock absorber replacement tool in place. Therefore, to make it easier to fit the cross member, it is necessary to make a spacer according to the drawing below.

Refit:

  • the cross member on a spacer (to be made locally) at the centre of the rear axle,

Dimensions in mm and °

  • the first anti-roll bar, respecting the angle of the spacer and the free fitting position.

  • the second anti-roll bar, seeking the free fitting position.

To position the arm so that the bar can be correctly fitted, it is necessary to make a tool locally.

  1. Nut Ø 14 mm
  2. Nut Ø 12 mm
  3. Threaded rod Ø 12 mm - length 660 mm
  4. Flat steel bracket 30 x 5 mm
  5. Screw 12 x 60 mm, cut to a length of 20 mm
  6. Welding

Preset the tool to obtain dimension

X = 430 mm

Fit the tool in place of the shock absorber.

Engage the suspension bars, turning the bar to find the stress-free fitting position.

Refit:

  • the bar seals,
  • the shock absorbers,
  • the wheels.

Place the vehicle on its wheels and measure the ride heights (see chapter "Values and adjustment").

Check and adjust if necessary:

  • the brake compensator,
  • the headlights.

REMINDER

Correcting a wheel height difference between the right and left sides is always done by adjusting the anti-roll bars.

Correcting a difference in dimension "X" between the right and left sides is always done by adjusting the suspension bars.
