Stop and start function

~3min read

This system reduces fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

When the vehicle starts, the system is activated automatically.

When driving, the system stops the engine (standby mode) when the vehicle stops (traffic jam, traffic light, etc.).

System operating conditions

  • The engine enters standby mode if:
  • the vehicle has moved since its last stop;
  • the gearbox is in neutral;
  • the clutch pedal is released;

and

  • the vehicle speed is below 3 km/h.
! Do not drive the vehicle while the engine is in standby mode (the au tableau de bord). indicator is displayed on the instrument panel).

The warning lightet vous avertit de la mise en veille du moteur.appears on the instrument panel and warns you that the engine has entered standby mode.

Vehicle equipment remains operational while the engine is off.

The engine restarts when you press the clutch pedal and select a gear.

If you leave your vehicle, an audible signal warns you that the engine is in standby and not switched off.

! Before leaving the vehicle, switching off the ignition is essential (refer to the "Starting and switching off the engine" section).

Specific feature of automatic engine restart

Under certain conditions, the engine may restart without any action on your part to ensure your safety and comfort.

This can happen in particular when:

the outside temperature is too low or too high (below approximately 0 °C or above approximately 30 °C);

  • the "see clearly" function is activated, if the vehicle is equipped with it (refer to the "Automatic air conditioning" section in chapter 3);
  • the battery is not sufficiently charged;
  • the vehicle speed is above 7 km/h;
  • the brake pedal is pressed repeatedly or the braking system requires assistance;

! Engine in standby, the brake assistance is no longer operational.

Conditions preventing engine stop

Certain conditions prevent the system from putting the engine into standby mode, in particular:

  • reverse gear is engaged;
  • the engine hood is not locked;
  • the outside temperature is too low or too high (below approximately 0 °C or above approximately 30 °C);
  • the battery is not sufficiently charged;
  • the difference between the interior temperature of the vehicle and the automatic air conditioning set point is too great;
  • the "see clearly" function is activated, if the vehicle is equipped with it (refer to the "Automatic air conditioning" section in chapter 3);
  • the engine coolant temperature is too low;
  • the automatic particulate filter cleaning is in progress;

For refuelling, the engine must be switched off (not on standby): you must switch off the engine (refer to the "Starting, stopping the engine" section).

Special cases

In the event of engine stalling, if the system is active, fully depress the clutch pedal to restart.

! Deactivate the Stop and Start function before carrying out any work in the engine compartment.
