Injection / air conditioning strategy

~2min read

THE COMPRESSOR IS A VARIABLE-DISPLACEMENT TYPE

A/C CONTROL UNIT / INJECTION CONTROL UNIT LINK

The electrical link:

  • The link from the air conditioning control unit to the injection control unit is made by a wire (pin 5). Two pieces of information travel on this pin:
  • the fast idle request information. For this information to be sent to the injection control unit, two conditions must be met:
  • A/C is selected on the dashboard,
  • the pressure in the A/C circuit is above a threshold.

If this information is sent, fast idle is obtained. (So it is normal that sometimes, with A/C on and the engine at idle, there is no fast idle.)

  • the Absorbed Power information. This information has no effect on idle speed. It simply informs the injection control unit of the torque taken by the compressor, and the control unit acts on the idle control solenoid valve to anticipate the torque demand. The absorbed power can be viewed using the XR25 tool. With A/C on, #44 should read between 300 watts and 5,000 watts.
WARNING: the value at #44 or at idle is never equal to 0, whatever the state of the compressor, on or off. The minimum value read at #44 is approximately 300 watts.
  • The link from the injection control unit to the air conditioning control unit is made by a wire (pin 51). This pin carries the information authorising or prohibiting compressor engagement.

COMPRESSOR ENGAGEMENT STRATEGY

In certain operating phases, the injection control unit prohibits compressor operation.

Strategy at engine start

Compressor operation is prohibited for 10 seconds after engine start.

Performance restoration (D7F engine)

Depending on the torque requested of the engine by the driver and on the power absorbed by the A/C compressor, the injection control unit prohibits or allows compressor operation.

Anti-stall protection (D7F engine)

If foot-off is detected, engine speed is below 600 rpm, and the power absorbed by the compressor is above 300 watts, the compressor is disengaged.

It is re-engaged:

  • if foot-off is detected when engine speed reaches 850 rpm,
  • if foot-off is not detected when engine speed reaches 1,800 rpm.

Thermal protection strategy (E7J engine)

The compressor is not engaged when the coolant temperature is greater than or equal to +115°C.

Over-speed protection strategy (E7J engine)

Compressor operation is prohibited if engine speed is above 5,900 rpm.
