IMPORTANT

Always observe the safety precautions (Air Conditioning chapter, Safety precautions, page 62A-7).

WARNING

Always observe the cleanliness rules (see Precautions).

The fault diagnosis table applies to all air conditioning systems (automatic or manual) and must not be used as the sole source of information, as some components are not fitted to all versions (refer to the specific repair manuals).

The figures indicate the most frequent causes of faults (figures are repeated if several causes occur at the same time).

PRELIMINARY CHECK

  • Check:
  • the battery voltage (Battery chapter),
  • the condition of the cabin filter (Air Conditioning chapter, Cabin filter, page 62A-12).

CHECKING AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM EFFICIENCY

  • Start the engine.
  • Switch on the air conditioning control or energise the compressor clutch directly.
  • Set the cooling control to maximum.
  • Direct the air distribution control to the central and side vents and select recirculation mode.
  • Close all vents except one side vent.
  • Select the highest fan speed.
Note: The air outlet temperature must drop below 10 °C in about 1 min.

SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION

  • Identify the air conditioning system fitted to the vehicle (read the families, program number, etc.) using the diagnostic tool.
  • Consult the diagnostic documents corresponding to the identified system.
