Preliminaries
1. APPLICABILITY OF THIS DOCUMENT
This document describes the diagnosis applicable to all control units with the following characteristics:
| Vehicle: Mégane Function concerned: Automatic climate control |
ECU name: Careg Program no.: 0003 Vdiag no.: 04 |
2. ESSENTIAL ITEMS FOR DIAGNOSIS
Documentation type:
Diagnostic methods (this document):
- Assisted diagnosis (built into the diagnostic tool), paper (Repair Manual or Technical Note), Dialogys.
Wiring diagrams:
- Visu-Schéma (CD-ROM), paper.
Diagnostic tool type:
- CLIP
Essential tool type:
ESSENTIAL SPECIALIST TOOLS |
Multimeter |
Universal test lead: Elé. 1681 |
3. REMINDERS
Diagnostic procedure:
To diagnose the vehicle's computers, put the ignition in diagnostic mode (+ after forced ignition), i.e. proceed as follows:
- Vehicle badge on badge holder (vehicles without key, scenario 1, entry level, without hands-free, and scenario 2, high end, hands-free),
- Press and hold the "start" button (more than 5 seconds) when starting conditions are not met,
- Then connect the diagnostic tool and carry out the required operations.
Important: The left and right xenon lamp computers are powered when the dipped beams are switched on. Their diagnosis is therefore only possible after putting the ignition in diagnostic mode (+ after forced ignition) and switching on the dipped beams.
To switch off the +after ignition, proceed as follows:
- Disconnect the diagnostic tool,
- Briefly press the "start" button twice (less than 3 seconds each time),
- Check that the +after ignition forced is switched off by the computer warning lights on the instrument panel going out.
Faults:
Faults may be reported as present or as stored (occurred under certain conditions and since cleared, or still present but not diagnosed under the current conditions).
The "current" or "stored" fault status must be checked when starting the diagnostic tool after switching on ignition (without operating any components of the system).
For a present fault, deal with the fault following the procedure given in the chapter "Fault interpretation".
For a stored fault, record the displayed faults and follow the instructions in the "Instructions" section.
If the fault is confirmed when the instruction is applied, the fault is present. In this case, repair the fault.
If the fault is not confirmed, carry out the basic checks. To do so, check:
- The electrical lines corresponding to the fault,
- The connectors of these lines (corrosion, bent pins, etc.),
- The resistance of the component detected as faulty,
- The condition of the wiring (melted or cut insulation, chafing).
Conformity check
The conformity check aims to verify the states and parameters that show no fault on the diagnostic tool when they are inconsistent. This step therefore allows you to:
- diagnose faults with no fault display that may correspond to a customer complaint,
- verify correct operation of the system and make sure a fault will not reappear after repair.
This chapter therefore contains a diagnosis of states and parameters, under the conditions required for their check.
If a status does not operate normally or a parameter is out of tolerance, refer to the corresponding diagnosis page.
Particularities of conformity checks for the air conditioning function:
All variables (statuses and parameters) and commands required for the air conditioning function are divided into four sub-functions:
- the COLD LOOP sub-function groups all information required to produce cold air,
- the USER SELECTION sub-function groups all information relating to user requests (button presses, indicator lamps, etc.),
- the HEATING sub-function groups all information required to produce warm air,
- the CABIN VENTILATION sub-function groups all information required for ventilation, distribution and distribution of air within the cabin.
The air conditioning function conformity check is divided into two parts: 1/ All information relating to sensors and actuators controlled by the automatic climate control panel (distribution motor, blend motor, recirculation motor, cabin ventilation, etc.) is found in the conformity check of this chapter.
2/ All information required for the air conditioning function (information produced by several control modules) is found in the conformity check of chapter 62A "Air Conditioning".
NOTE: Interpretation of statuses, parameters and commands is also divided across several chapters. Everything managed by the automatic climate control panel is interpreted in this chapter. However, information from other control modules is interpreted in the diagnosis chapters of the control modules that produce the information.
Customer complaints - Fault locating tree
If the diagnostic tool check is correct but the customer complaint is still present, deal with the problem using "customer effects".
A summary of the overall procedure is shown as a flowchart on the next page.4. DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

5. DIAGNOSTIC SHEET
WARNING: All faults on a complex system must be subject to a complete diagnosis using suitable tools. The DIAGNOSIS SHEET, to be completed during diagnosis, provides and keeps a record of the diagnosis performed. It is an essential element of communication with the manufacturer.
A DIAGNOSTIC SHEET MUST BE COMPLETED EVERY TIME A DIAGNOSIS IS PERFORMED.This sheet will always be requested:
- when requesting technical assistance from the Techline,
- for approval requests, when replacing parts that require mandatory approval,
- to attach it to the “under monitoring” parts requested for return. It is then required for warranty reimbursement and helps with a better analysis of the removed parts.
6. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Any operation on a component requires compliance with safety rules in order to avoid any material or personal injury:
- Check that the battery is correctly charged to avoid damage to the ECUs in case of low charge.
- No smoking.
- Use the appropriate tools.
