  • Gear shift lever in P (Park) position
With the engine running, depress the brake pedal and shift from P (Park) to R (Reverse) or D (Drive).
  • Gear shift lever in N (Neutral) position
With the engine running, depress the brake pedal and shift from N (Neutral) to R (Reverse) or D (Drive).
  • Satisfy the following conditions

1. Start the engine.

2. Fasten the driver's seat belt.

3. Close the driver's door, hood, and trunk.

4. Press the accelerator pedal when the shift lever is in D (Drive) or manual shift mode.

The parking brake indicator light should turn off when the EPB is released.

If the parking brake indicator light remains illuminated even though the EPB has been released, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Information

  • For your safety, you can apply the EPB even when the engine is not running. The start button is in the OFF position, but you cannot release it.
  • For safety, depress the brake pedal and release the parking brake manually using the EPB switch when driving downhill or when driving the vehicle in reverse.

NOTICE

  • If the parking brake indicator light remains on even though the EPB has been released, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
  • Do not drive the vehicle with the EPB applied. This may cause excessive wear of the brake pads and brake discs.

If the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) does not release:

Contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer and have the vehicle towed on a flatbed truck to inspect the system.

The EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) may be applied automatically when:

  • The EPB overheats
  • Requested by other systems
  • Engine off with the EPB applied

Information

If the driver turns off the engine while the Auto Hold function is operating, the EPB will automatically apply. However, if you press the EPB switch within one second after turning off the engine, the EPB will not apply.
