Blade Inspection

Contamination of the windshield or wiper blades with foreign matter can reduce wiper performance. Common sources of contamination include insects, tree sap, and hot wax treatments used by some commercial car washes. If the blades do not wipe properly, clean the windshield and blades with a clean cloth dampened with washer fluid or clean water.

NOTICE

To avoid damaging the wiper blades, arms, or other components, do not perform the following:

  • Use gasoline, kerosene, paint thinner, or other solvents on or near them.
  • Attempt to move the wipers by hand.
  • Use wiper blades other than those specified.

Information

Hot waxes applied at automatic car washes are known to make the windshield difficult to clean.

Blade Replacement

When the wipers no longer clean properly, the blades may be worn or cracked and require replacement.

NOTICE

To avoid damaging the wiper arms or other components, do not attempt to move the wipers by hand.

NOTICE

Using a wiper blade not specified for your vehicle may cause wiper malfunction and failure.

1. Raise the wiper arm.

NOTICE

Do not allow the wiper arm to drop onto the windshield, as it may chip or crack the windshield.

2. Lift the wiper arm clip. Then press the blade body.

3. Install the new wiper blade assembly in the reverse order of removal.

4. Return the wiper arm to the windshield.
