Correct fluid

Właściwy płyn

Use SUZUKI automatic transmission fluid or a fluid of equivalent quality to DEXRON II.

Checking the fluid level

Kontrola poziomu płynu

Check the automatic transmission fluid level at the intervals specified in the periodic maintenance chart. Driving with too little or too much fluid may damage the transmission.

The fluid level must be checked with the engine idling, the vehicle on level ground, and the fluid at least at room temperature. To check the level:

  1. Apply the parking brake and start the engine with the selector in "P". Let it idle for two (1.0 L/1.3 L) or five minutes (1.6 L).
  2. With your foot on the brake pedal, move the selector lever through all positions, then return it to "P".
WARNING Remember to depress the brake pedal while moving the selector lever, as the vehicle may suddenly move.

NOTE: Do not check the fluid level immediately after prolonged high-speed driving or city driving in hot weather. For accurate readings, allow the fluid to cool (about 30 minutes).

  1. (1.0 L/1.3 L engine)
Remove the dipstick located behind the radiator fan. Carefully touch the wet end of the dipstick to check whether the fluid is warm (at least room temperature). If it is cold, reinsert the dipstick and drive the vehicle at least 8 km before rechecking.

    (1.6 L engine)
Remove the dipstick located near the transmission. Carefully touch the wet end of the dipstick to check whether the fluid is hot (about 65°C). If it is warm or cool, reinsert the dipstick and warm the fluid by running the engine until it reaches about 65°C.

  2. (1.0 L/1.3 L engine)
If the fluid is at room temperature or warmer, wipe the dipstick and reinsert it until the cap seats. Remove the dipstick and read the fluid level. If the fluid is not hot (about 20°C), the level should be between the two notches in the "COLD" range. If the fluid is hot (about 75°C), the level should be within the "HOT" notches on the dipstick. (1.6 L engine)
Wipe the dipstick and reinsert it until the cap seats. Remove the dipstick and read the fluid level.

The fluid level should be between the "FULL" and "LOW" marks.

  3. Add only enough correct fluid to bring the level to the proper range. Raising the level from "LOW" to "FULL" requires only 0.35 L of fluid.
NOTE After checking or adding fluid, carefully reinsert the dipstick fully into place.

Replacing the fluid

Since special procedures, materials and tools are required to replace automatic transmission fluid, it is recommended that this work be carried out by an authorised SUZUKI dealer.
