Correct oil

Make sure the oil used meets API class SF or SG (for GTi), or SE, SD, SF or SG (for GA, GL, GLX and GS). Select the appropriate oil viscosity according to the table above.

For GTi, 1.61

At temperatures above -20°C, SAE 10W-30 oil is especially recommended.

Checking the oil level

To maintain proper engine lubrication, it is important to keep the engine oil at the correct level. Check the oil level with the vehicle on level ground. Measuring on a slope may give inaccurate readings.

Check the oil level either before starting the engine or at least 2-3 minutes after it has been stopped.

Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean with a cloth, insert it fully and pull it out again. The oil level should be between the upper and lower marks on the dipstick. If the oil level is near the lower mark, add oil until it reaches the upper mark.

Adding oil

Uzupełnianie oleju

Remove the oil filler cap and slowly pour oil through the filler opening until the level reaches the upper mark on the dipstick. Be careful not to overfill, as this is almost as harmful as underfilling. After adding oil, run the engine at idle for about one minute. Stop the engine, wait 2-3 minutes and check the oil level again.

Replacing engine oil and filter. Drain the engine oil while the engine is still warm.

  1. Remove the oil filler cap.
  2. Place a container for used oil under the drain plug.
  3. Using a wrench, loosen the drain plug and drain the oil.

Tightening torque 3.0-4.0 kgf·m

WARNING Engine oil may be hot enough to burn your fingers when the drain plug is loosened. Wait until the plug has cooled enough to be grasped with a bare hand.
  1. Install the drain plug together with the washer.

Tighten with a torque wrench to 3.0-4.0 kgf·m.

Replacing the oil filter

Wymiana filtru olejowego

  1. Using an oil filter wrench, unscrew and remove the filter by turning it counterclockwise.
  2. Wipe the engine surface where the new filter will be installed with a clean cloth.
  3. Apply a small amount of engine oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter.
  4. Screw the new filter on by hand until the gasket contacts the engine surface.

Tightening torque: 1.2-1.6 kgf·m

NOTE To tighten the oil filter correctly, it is important to determine exactly the position at which the gasket contacts the mounting surface.
  1. Tighten the filter an additional 3/4 turn from the point of gasket contact (or to 1.2-1.6 kgf·m), using an oil filter wrench.
NOTE To avoid oil leaks, make sure the oil filter is seated properly, but do not overtighten it.

Add oil and check for leaks

  1. Pour 3.3 liters of oil through the filler opening and install the filler cap.
  2. Start the engine and carefully check that no oil leaks from the filter or drain plug. Let the engine run at varying speeds for at least 5 minutes.
  3. Stop the engine and wait a few minutes.

Check the oil level again and top up if necessary. Check for leaks.

NOTE When replacing oil filters, SUZUKI original filters are recommended. If filters from other manufacturers are used, make sure they are of equivalent quality and follow the manufacturer's instructions. NOTE Oil leaking from the oil filter or drain plug indicates incorrect installation or a damaged gasket. If a leak is found, or if there is doubt about correct filter tightening, contact a SUZUKI service station.
