Engine Start Interlock Switch
Inspection
PROCEDURE
1. Check the clutch pedal height, clutch pedal free play, and pushrod free play (see Subsection 8.2).
2. Check that the engine cannot be started when the clutch pedal is released. Check that the engine starts when the clutch pedal is fully depressed.
3. If the switch does not operate as described, adjust it or replace it if necessary.

4. The engine start interlock switch (1) is located under the instrument panel on the bracket in front of the clutch pedal. Locate it and disconnect the electrical connector.

5. Using an ohmmeter, check that the switch conducts current when it is on (clutch pedal depressed) and does not conduct current when it is off (clutch pedal released).
6. Check that the switch does not conduct current when it is off (clutch pedal released).
7. If the switch is faulty, replace it.
Replacement
PROCEDURE
1. Unscrew the nut closest to the switch plunger and unscrew the switch. Disconnect the electrical connector.
2. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. The switch is self-adjusting, so no adjustment is required.
3. Check again that the engine does not start if the clutch pedal is not fully depressed, and that it starts when the pedal is fully depressed.
