Engines with 1.1 and 1.3 L displacement PROCEDURE 1. Drain the coolant from the engine cooling system.

2. Remove the camshaft drive upper cover (see subsection 2.2.1.7).

3. Turn the crankshaft so that the rear camshaft drive cover mounting bolt is visible through the hole in the camshaft gear. Unscrew and remove the bolt. 4. Remove the camshaft drive belt (see subsection 2.2.1.7).

5. Unscrew the bolts securing the rear camshaft drive cover and the water pump. 6. Remove the rear camshaft drive cover. 7. Remove water pump 15 (see fig. Cooling system components of engines with 1.1 and 1.3 L displacement) and O-ring 14. 8. The water pump is not serviceable. If it fails, replace it.

9. Install the pump in the reverse order. Tighten the water pump mounting bolts to a torque of 10 N·m. Engines with 1.6 and 1.8 L displacement PROCEDURE 1. Drain the coolant from the engine cooling system. 2. Remove the generator drive belt (see subsection 2.2.2.1).

3. Remove the generator. 4. Remove the generator mounting bracket. 5. Disconnect hoses 2 (see fig. Cooling system components of engines with 1.6 and 1.8 L displacement), 3 and 15 from the pump housing. 6. Unscrew the water pump mounting bolts, remove the pump and the O-ring. 7. Unscrew the pulley mounting bolts and remove pulley 11. 8. Unscrew bolts 6, remove thermostat housing cover 5 and thermostat 8, and remove O-ring 7. 9. Unscrew the pump cover mounting bolts and remove cover 9 together with the water pump impeller. Remove gasket 12. The impeller, bearing or shaft seal most often fails in the water pump. If at least one of these parts has failed, all three parts must be replaced. 10. Assemble and install the pump in the reverse order. Tighten the pump and pulley mounting bolts to a torque of 20 N·m, and the pump cover bolts to 10 N·m. Replace gasket 12 and the water pump O-ring.
