PROCEDURE

PARKING BRAKE CABLE, DISC BRAKES Removal PROCEDURE 1. Perform steps 1–4 of subsection 10.9.1.

2. Release the parking brake. 3. Remove cover 15 (see figure Parking brake). 4. Unscrew lock nuts 12 and adjusting nuts 13 from the threaded ends 18 of both cables. 5. Disconnect cable 1 (see figure Parking brake cable removal) from lever 2. 6. Remove spring clip 3. 7. Pull out the cable together with the sheath, disconnecting it from clip 1 (see figure Parking brake cable sheath attachment). Installation Install the parking brake cable in the reverse order of removal, then adjust the parking brake (see below). PARKING BRAKE CABLE, DRUM BRAKES Removal PROCEDURE 1. Perform steps 1–4 of subsection 10.12.

2. Remove the drum and disconnect the cable from the lever (see subsection 10.10). 3. Pull out the cable together with the sheath, disconnecting it from clip 1. Installation Install the parking brake cable in the reverse order of removal, then adjust the parking brake (see below). Parking brake adjustment PROCEDURE 1. Raise and support the rear of the vehicle on stands. 2. Remove cover 15 (see figure Parking brake). 3. Unscrew lock nuts 12 and adjusting nuts 13 from the threaded ends of both cables. 4. Press the brake pedal firmly. 5. Apply the parking brake lever two clicks on models built up to December 1987, or four clicks on models built after January 1988. 6. Tighten adjusting nuts 13 until the rear wheels can still be turned by hand. 7. Release the parking brake and check that both wheels turn freely. If not, loosen adjusting nuts 13 slightly. 8. Tighten lock nuts 12 while holding adjusting nuts 13. 9. Install cover 15.
