Vacuum Pump (Diesel Engine Models)
PROCEDURE

Vacuum Pump 1 – fitting; 2 – housing; 3 – drive gear
On vehicles with diesel engines, vacuum in the brake booster is created by a vacuum pump driven from the engine intermediate shaft. Removal PROCEDURE 1. Disconnect the flexible hose from the fitting 1 (refer to Vacuum Pump illustration). 2. Unscrew the bolt 15 (refer to Diesel Engine Lubrication System Components illustration) and remove the bracket 16. 3. Remove the vacuum pump 17 with gasket 18 and drive gear 19. Installation PROCEDURE 1. Install the vacuum pump with drive gear 19 and new gasket 18 onto the engine block so that the protrusion on the oil pump shaft engages the slot on the vacuum pump shaft. 2. Install the bracket 16 and tighten the bolt 15 to 25 N·m. Check PROCEDURE 1. Disconnect the flexible hose from the fitting 1 (refer to Vacuum Pump illustration). 2. Start the engine. 3. Close the fitting opening and check whether vacuum is created. If it is not, replace the vacuum pump.
