Low-Maintenance Battery
The vehicle is equipped with so-called low-maintenance batteries. These batteries require only electrolyte topping up during servicing.
The following rules must be observed:
• The battery cover has a vent opening through which the battery can "breathe". To prevent electrolyte leakage, do not tilt the battery more than 45°.
• Conventional battery chargers may be used to charge the battery. The battery can also be charged with a rapid charger. In this case the battery must be removed for charging.
• If an electronic charger is used, the battery does not need to be removed or disconnected. The charger electronics protect the battery from voltage surges.
• Only an electronic charger should be used to charge a severely discharged battery. When charging with conventional chargers, the initial charging current is very high, which may damage the battery or even cause it to discharge fully.
• If the electrolyte level is low, for example after prolonged operation in hot climates, add distilled water to the battery.
• If the vehicle is not in use, charge the battery every six weeks.
• If the vehicle will not be used for more than six weeks, remove the battery and store it fully charged. Recommended storage temperature is from 0° to +27°C. At this temperature the battery self-discharges to a minimal degree. The battery must be charged no later than 3 months later. Otherwise it may fail.
• Clean the battery terminals regularly and lubricate them with petroleum jelly or terminal grease.
• Jump-starting from another battery should be done only in exceptional cases, as the battery is subjected to very high short-term loads.
