Standby mode and ready-to-drive mode. Engine temperature. Outside temperature. Range
This chapter focuses on speed control with “Speed Limit Assist” in the BMW 5 G30. This function automatically detects applicable speed limits and adjusts the vehicle speed accordingly, either manually or automatically. The section explains operation, settings and safety mechanisms such as warning messages when the camera view is obstructed. Thanks to the connection to navigation and traffic sign recognition, the system offers a high level of comfort and precision. The combination with driving modes and driver assistance systems is also described, so that they work together seamlessly. For frequent drivers and commuters, Speed Limit Assist is a real benefit, not only for safety but also for relaxed, law-abiding driving in the 7th generation BMW 5 Series.
Standby mode and ready-to-drive mode
The OFF indicator on the tachometer shows that ready-to-drive mode is switched off and standby mode is switched on.
The READY indicator on the tachometer shows that ready-to-drive mode is switched on.
For more information, see Sleep mode, standby and ready-to-drive mode.
Engine temperature

- Cold engine: The pointer is at the low temperature value. Drive at moderate engine speed and speed.
- Normal operating temperature: The pointer is in the middle or lower half of the temperature display.
- Hot engine: The pointer is at the high temperature value. A Check Control message is also displayed.
Outside temperature
WARNING Even at temperatures above +3 °C, there may be an increased risk of black ice, for example on bridges or shaded road sections. There is a risk of accident. At low temperatures, adapt your driving style to the weather conditions. If the display drops to +3 °C or lower, a signal sounds.
A Check Control message is displayed.
There is an increased risk of black ice.
Time
The time is shown in the instrument cluster.
Set the time and time format.
Range
Principle
The range shows the distance that can still be covered with the current fuel tank contents.
General
The estimated range with the fuel on board is permanently shown in the instrument cluster.
When the remaining range is low, a Check Control message is briefly displayed.
During dynamic driving, for example fast cornering, engine operation is not always ensured.
Below a range of approx. 50 km, the Check Control message is displayed continuously.
Safety information
NOTICE At a range below 50 km, the engine may no longer receive sufficient fuel. Engine functions are no longer ensured. There is a risk of property damage. Refuel in good time.
Display
Instrument cluster without extended scope
The current range is shown as a numerical value in the lower area of the speedometer.
Instrument cluster with extended scope
The current range is shown as a numerical value next to the fuel gauge.
The BMW 5 G30/G31 provides the driver with all relevant information on standby mode and ready-to-drive mode, as well as on temperature and range, in a clear form. These displays contribute decisively to the safety and efficient operation of the vehicle.
Particularly helpful are the warning messages for low outside temperatures or low range, which prompt the driver to act in good time. This keeps the BMW 5 Series G30/G31 a reliable partner in all driving situations.
It combines state-of-the-art technology with practical support for everyday driving.
