Operating Principle
The SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox) is an automated version of a manual gearbox. The electrohydraulic system takes over the functions of the engine clutch, the transmission and gear shifting.
The SMG gearbox is controlled by the selector lever on the center console and two switches on the steering wheel.
It has the following modes and functions:
► manual and automatic control: sequential and basic modes;
► choice between two programs: normal and sport, see "Driving Mode Switch";
► automatic downshifting and protection against shifting errors, including in sequential mode;
► launch control.
The SMG gearbox is ready for operation as soon as the ignition key is turned to position 2.
