Maintenance and Service

Battery

~2min read

The vehicle is equipped with a maintenance-free battery.

Battery acid can cause serious burns and damage paint.

• Avoid contact of battery acid with skin and clothing.
• Do not allow open flames, smoldering materials or sparks near the battery. This may cause an explosion of the gases generated during normal battery operation.

CLEANING BATTERY TERMINALS

1. Turn the ignition off and remove the ignition key.

2. Using a wrench, loosen and remove the battery cable clamps. Always disconnect the negative (-) cable first.

3. Clean the battery terminals with a stiff brush or a special tool.

4. Check the battery terminals for white or bluish powder, which indicates corrosion.

5. Remove corrosion using a solution of baking soda and water. The solution should begin to foam and turn brown.

6. When the solution stops foaming, rinse it off with water and wipe the battery with a cloth or paper towel.

7. Connect the cables to the positive terminal (+) first, then to the negative terminal (-). Always connect the negative (-) cable last.

• When connecting the cables to the battery, make sure the clamps are correctly installed and then securely tightened with the clamp bolts.
• Observe the correct connection: the red cable connects to the positive battery terminal (+), and the black cable connects to the negative terminal (-).

Incorrect cable connection to the battery terminals may cause personal injury and damage to vehicle components and other property.

8. To prevent corrosion, coat the battery terminals with petroleum jelly or special grease.

Remember: connect the positive (+) terminal first and disconnect the negative (-) terminal first.

BATTERY MAINTENANCE

To extend battery service life:

• The battery must be installed correctly.
• The top of the battery must remain clean and dry.
• The battery terminals and cable clamps must be clean, securely fastened, and coated with special grease or petroleum jelly.
• Immediately wash off any spilled electrolyte with a solution of water and baking soda.
• If the vehicle will not be used for a long period, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal (-).
• A removed battery should be charged every six weeks.

Batteries contain poisonous substances. Used batteries can be hazardous to health and the environment.

• Do not dispose of batteries with household waste.

Use only disposal methods for automotive waste permitted in your region.

A vehicle parked for more than 20 days is considered a long-term storage. In this case, the negative battery terminal must be disconnected. Note that a disconnected battery also discharges slowly, so it must be fully charged with a suitable charger at least every 1.5 to 2 months. Storing a discharged battery connected to the vehicle may damage electrical components of the vehicle as well as the battery itself. Such failures are not covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
