Safety Precautions

~3min read

When performing any inspection or maintenance on the vehicle, observe precautions to reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to parts.

General safety precautions for vehicle maintenance:

• Do not perform repairs when the engine is hot.

The catalytic converter and other exhaust system components can become very hot while the engine is running.

Touching these components while the engine is running may cause severe burns.

• Do not get under a vehicle supported only by a jack.

When performing repairs under the vehicle, install safe supports under the underbody.

• Do not allow smoldering or burning materials and sparks to contact the battery, fuel, or fuel system components.
• Do not install or remove the battery or any electronic/electrical components with the ignition switched on.
• When connecting battery cables, pay special attention to their polarity.

Do not connect the positive cable to the negative terminal, and vice versa.

• Remember that the battery, ignition cables, and vehicle electrical connections carry high current or voltage. Use caution to avoid electric shock.

• Before opening the hood, switch off the ignition and remove the key.

Touching live electrical components with the ignition on may cause electric shock or burns.

When working in the engine compartment, remove loose clothing and jewelry that could be caught by moving engine parts, and keep away from the fan, belts, and other moving parts.

• When running the engine in an enclosed space, such as a garage, ensure adequate ventilation.
• Store used oil, coolant, and other fluids out of reach of children and pets.
• Do not dispose of empty oil containers or containers holding used oil or fluid with household waste. Use only disposal methods for vehicle waste approved in your region.
• If you must open the hood with the engine running, take measures to prevent unintended vehicle movement. With an automatic transmission, move the selector lever to the PARK or NEUTRAL position and apply the parking brake.

With a manual transmission, move the shift lever to the neutral position and apply the parking brake.

• To prevent injury, always switch off the ignition and remove the key before working in the engine compartment, except in special cases. If maintenance work in the engine compartment must be performed with the engine running, remove loose clothing and jewelry that could be caught by moving engine parts and cause injury.

Engine cooling fan

Electric cooling fans located in the engine compartment are controlled by sensors. These fans may start operating at any time.

• Keep hands, fingers, clothing, etc. at a safe distance from the fan blades.

Touching live electrical components of the vehicle with the ignition on is extremely dangerous.

• Before inspecting the engine or performing maintenance in the engine compartment, make sure the ignition is switched off and the key is removed.

Failure to do so may result in burns, electric shock, or other personal injury.

To avoid injury from the cooling fan blades, switch off the engine before working in the engine compartment so that the fan cannot start.

In addition, remember that the electronic ignition system operates at higher voltage than standard systems. Therefore, touching live components with the ignition on is extremely dangerous.
