For proper operation of the alternator, power steering pump and air conditioning compressor, the drive belt must be in good condition and properly adjusted.

A worn, cracked or frayed drive belt must be replaced.

With the key in the ignition switch, there is a risk of the engine starting unexpectedly.

• Do not leave the key in the ignition switch when inspecting the drive belt.

Moving parts in the engine compartment can cause serious injury.

DRIVE BELT INSPECTION

To check the drive belt tension:

1. Press firmly with your thumb at the midpoint of the longest span of the drive belt between two pulleys.

The applied force should be approximately 10 kgf.

2. The drive belt deflection caused by the applied force should be approximately 10 mm.

3. If belt tension is insufficient, have the belt adjusted by an authorized Chevrolet dealer.
