Hands-free tailgate
(Depending on version)
Tailgate operation requests must be made with the vehicle stationary.

Check that there is enough space for the powered tailgate to move freely.

Never insert a finger into the powered tailgate locking mechanism - risk of serious injury!
Anti-pinch
The powered tailgate has an obstacle detection system that automatically stops and reverses the movement by a few degrees to allow the obstacle to be cleared.
Warning: this anti-pinch system is not active at the end of closing (approximately 1 cm before fully closed).
To avoid any risk of pinching or trapping injuries, before and during powered tailgate operation:
- Make sure no one is near the rear of the vehicle.
- Watch the behaviour of rear passengers, especially children.
Bicycle carrier / Towing hitch
The powered tailgate is not designed to support a bicycle carrier.
If a bicycle carrier is fitted to the towing hitch with the cable connected to the towing socket, the powered tailgate operation will be automatically deactivated.
If a towing hitch or bicycle carrier not recommended by CITROËN is used, the powered tailgate operation must be deactivated.
Powered operation
The powered tailgate operation is set in the Driving / Vehicle menu on the touch screen.

There are several ways to operate the tailgate:
- With the electronic key of the Hands-free Access and Starting system
- With the exterior control on the tailgate
- With the interior control on the tailgate glass
Opening
► Press and hold the central button A on the electronic key.
or
► Briefly press the exterior control B on the tailgate with the electronic key on your person.
The tailgate opens fully by default, or to the previously stored position.
If powered operation is not activated, these actions release the tailgate (partially open position).
When the vehicle is locked, a request to open the boot using control A or B unlocks the vehicle, or the boot only if selective unlocking is activated, before the boot opens.
Closing
► Briefly press the interior control C on the tailgate glass.
It is possible to intervene at any time during tailgate operation.
Pressing one of these controls again stops the movement in progress.
Hands-free function (access with arms full)
With the electronic key on your person, this function allows the powered tailgate to be opened, closed or stopped by a "kick" movement under the rear bumper.
The "Hands-free Tailgate / Opening" function is set in the Driving / Vehicle menu on the touch screen.
Make sure you have a stable stance before performing the kick motion.
Take care not to touch the exhaust system, which may be hot. Risk of burns!
Plug-in hybrid vehicles
The function is not available when the vehicle is plugged in.

► Stand behind the vehicle at the level of the license plate, then kick the "OK" detection zone.
The kick must be made in the direction of travel, smoothly and not too quickly, in a vertical motion from bottom to top. Lift your foot sufficiently and withdraw it immediately.
Recognition of the kick is confirmed by the turn indicators flashing, followed by an audible signal.
A "sweeping" kick motion is prohibited. If the kick is not detected, wait at least 2 seconds before kicking again.
Do not perform repeated kicks.
If the powered tailgate has not started to move, check that:
- The function is activated.
- The electronic key is on your person, outside the vehicle in the rear recognition zone.
- The kick was made in the detection zone, close enough to the bumper.
- Your foot was withdrawn quickly enough from the bumper.
Automatic locking with hands-free function
Automatic locking of the vehicle with the hands-free function is activated or deactivated via the Driving / Vehicle menu on the touchscreen.
When the vehicle is locked, requesting tailgate opening with this function unlocks the vehicle, or only the tailgate if selective unlocking is activated, before the tailgate opens.
Closing the tailgate using the "Hands-free access" function locks the vehicle.
Recommendations for the hands-free function (Hands-free access)
If the function does not work, check that the electronic key is not exposed to a source of electromagnetic interference (e.g. smartphone).
The function may deactivate or be impaired in rain or snow.
The function may be impaired if you use a prosthetic leg.
In some cases, the tailgate may open or close on its own, in particular when:
- Hitching or unhitching a trailer.
- Using a towing device.
- Fitting or removing a bicycle carrier.
- Loading or unloading bicycles on a bicycle carrier.
- Placing or lifting something behind the vehicle.
- An animal approaches the rear bumper.
- Washing the vehicle.
- Carrying out maintenance on the vehicle.
- Accessing the spare wheel.
To prevent this type of operation, move the electronic key away from the recognition zone or deactivate the hands-free function.
Towing device
Fitting a towing device may interfere with the detection system.
► Perform the kick motion on the right-hand side of the towing device.
Storing an opening position
To store a position in order to limit the opening angle of the powered tailgate:
► Move the tailgate manually to the desired position, or use the button.
► Press and hold button C or the exterior control B for more than 3 seconds (storage confirmed by a short audible signal).
Storing a position is only available when the opening height between the lower and upper tailgate positions is 1 m or more.
To delete the stored position:
► Open the tailgate to any position.
► Press and hold button C or the exterior control B for more than 3 seconds (deletion confirmed by a long audible signal).
Manual operation
The tailgate can be operated by hand, even when powered operation is activated.
The tailgate must be stationary.
With powered operation restarted
It is possible to engage the powered tailgate manually.
► Tailgate open: move the tailgate slightly and firmly in the closing direction to start powered closing.
► Tailgate partially open: move the tailgate slightly and firmly in the opening direction to start powered opening.
Without restarting powered operation
► Move the tailgate smoothly and as slowly as possible.
When manually opening and closing the powered tailgate, the gas struts' assistance is no longer available. Resistance when opening as well as when closing is therefore entirely normal.
If the powered operation overheats
During repeated opening and closing operations of the tailgate, the electric motor may overheat and no longer allow the tailgate to open or close.
Let the electric motor cool down without operating the tailgate for at least 10 minutes.
If you cannot wait, operate the tailgate manually.
Manual closing of the powered tailgate in the event of a fault
This procedure is only necessary in the event of a fault with the powered tailgate system.
If the fault is caused by the battery, it is advisable to recharge or replace it with the tailgate closed.
In this situation, the force required to close the tailgate may be very high.
► Close it smoothly, as slowly as possible, pressing in the centre of the tailgate.
Do not lower the tailgate by pressing on one of its sides. Risk of damage!
Precautions for use
In winter conditions
To avoid any operating problems, remove snow or wait for ice to melt before commanding powered opening of the tailgate.
When washing
When washing the vehicle in an automatic car wash, remember to lock the vehicle and move away from it, to avoid any risk of unintended opening.
