"Clean Front Radar Sensor" Warning Message

The "ACC/FCW Unavailable, Clean Front Radar Sensor" message will appear and a warning chime will sound when conditions temporarily limit system performance.

This most often occurs in conditions of poor visibility, such as heavy snow or rain. The ACC system may also be temporarily disabled by obstructions such as dirt, mud, or ice. In these cases, the above message will appear in the instrument cluster display and the system will be deactivated.

This message may sometimes appear when driving in areas with high reflectivity (for example, ice and snow or tunnels with reflective tiles). The ACC system will recover after the vehicle leaves these areas. In rare cases, when the radar is not tracking any vehicles or objects in its path, this warning may appear temporarily.

NOTE:

If the "ACC/FCW Unavailable, Clean Front Radar Sensor" warning is active, fixed-speed cruise control is still available.

If weather conditions are not a factor, the driver should inspect the sensor. It may need to be cleaned or the obstruction removed. The sensor is located in the center of the vehicle behind the lower grille.

To ensure proper operation of the ACC system, observe the following care items:

  • Always keep the sensor clean. Gently wipe the sensor lens with a soft cloth. Be careful not to damage the sensor lens.
  • Do not loosen the screws on the sensor. This may cause the ACC system to malfunction or fail and require the sensor to be readjusted.
  • If the sensor or front of the vehicle is damaged as a result of a collision, have it serviced by an authorized dealer.
  • Do not attach or install any accessories near the sensor, including transparent material or aftermarket grilles. This may cause the ACC system to fail or malfunction.

When the condition that deactivated the system is no longer present, the system will return to the "Adaptive Cruise Control Off" state and resume operation simply by reactivating it.

NOTE:

  • If the "ACC/FCW Unavailable, Clean Front Radar Sensor" message appears frequently (for example, more than once per trip) without snow, rain, dirt, or other obstructions, have the radar sensor adjusted by an authorized dealer.
  • Installing a snow plow, bumper guard, non-original grille, or modifying the grille is not recommended. This may block the sensor and cause ACC/FCW operation to be disabled.

"Clean Windshield" Warning Message

The "ACC/FCW Limited Functionality, Clean Front Windshield" message will appear and a warning chime will sound when conditions temporarily limit system performance. This most often occurs in conditions of poor visibility, such as heavy snow, heavy rain, or fog. The ACC system may also be temporarily disabled by obstructions such as dirt, mud, or ice on the windshield, or fogging on the inside of the glass.

In these cases, the "ACC/FCW Limited Functionality, Clean Front Windshield" message will appear in the instrument cluster display and system performance will be reduced.

This message may sometimes appear while driving in adverse weather conditions. The ACC/FCW system will recover after the vehicle leaves these areas. In rare conditions, when the camera is not tracking vehicles or objects in its path, this warning may appear temporarily.

If weather conditions are not a factor, the driver should inspect the windshield and the camera located on the back side of the interior rearview mirror. They may need to be cleaned or the obstruction removed.

When the condition that caused limited functionality is no longer present, the system will return to full functionality.

NOTE:

If the "ACC/FCW Limited Functionality, Clean Front Windshield" message appears frequently (for example, more than once per trip) without snow, rain, dirt, or other obstructions, have the windshield and front camera checked by an authorized dealer.

ACC/FCW Service Warning

If the system shuts off and the instrument cluster displays "ACC/FCW Unavailable, Service Required" or "Service Required, Cruise/FCW Unavailable," there may be an internal system fault or a temporary malfunction limiting ACC functionality. Although the vehicle can still be driven under normal conditions, the ACC system will be temporarily unavailable. If this occurs, try reactivating ACC later, after a key-off and key-on cycle. If the problem is not resolved, contact an authorized dealer.
