Precautions When Driving with Adaptive Cruise Control
In certain driving situations, ACC may have difficulty detecting vehicles. In these cases, ACC may brake late or unexpectedly. The driver must remain alert and may need to intervene. Examples of such situations are listed below:
Towing a Trailer
Towing a trailer is not recommended when using ACC.
Offset Driving
ACC may not detect a vehicle in an adjacent lane that is offset from your direct line of travel, or a vehicle entering from a side lane. The following distance to the vehicle ahead may not be sufficient. An offset vehicle may move in and out of your line of travel, which may result in unexpected braking or acceleration of the vehicle.

Curves and Bends
When driving through a curve with adaptive cruise control enabled, the system may reduce vehicle speed and acceleration to maintain stability when there is no vehicle ahead. Once the vehicle exits the curve, the system will resume the original set speed. This is part of normal ACC system operation.
NOTE:
On sharp curves, ACC performance may be limited. The driver must maintain control of the vehicle, remain alert, and be ready to apply the brakes if necessary.

Using Adaptive Cruise Control on Hills
When driving on hills, ACC may not detect a vehicle in your lane. Depending on speed, vehicle load, traffic conditions, and the steepness of the hills, ACC performance may be limited.
NOTE:
The driver must maintain control of the vehicle, remain alert, and be ready to apply the brakes if necessary.

Lane Changes
ACC may not detect a vehicle until it is fully in the lane in which you are driving. In the lane change example below, ACC has not yet detected the vehicle changing lanes, and it may not detect the vehicle until it is too late for the ACC system to take action. ACC may not detect a vehicle until it is fully in your lane. The following distance to the vehicle changing lanes may not be sufficient. Always remain alert and be ready to apply the brakes if necessary.

Narrow Vehicles
Some narrow vehicles traveling near the outer edges of the lane or cutting into the lane are not detected until they are fully in the lane. The vehicle may not maintain a sufficient following distance from the vehicle ahead.

Stationary Objects and Vehicles
ACC does not respond to stationary objects or stopped vehicles. For example, ACC will not respond in situations where the vehicle you are following moves out of your lane and a stopped vehicle is in your lane. Always remain alert and be ready to apply the brakes if necessary.
