Instrument panel and controls

The Fiat CODE system

~2min read

To increase theft protection, the vehicle is equipped with an electronic immobiliser that is activated automatically when the ignition key is removed.

Each key has an electronic device in its handle that responds, before starting, to the signal sent to the key by a special antenna integrated in the ignition key. This signal is the "password", by which the electronics recognise the key and allow the engine to be started.

Operation

Each time the engine is started, when the ignition key is turned to MAR, the Fiat CODE system sends an identification code to the engine control unit to deactivate the immobiliser.

The identification code is transmitted only if the Fiat CODE system has recognised the code sent by the ignition key.

When the ignition key is turned to STOP, the Fiat CODE system deactivates the engine control unit functions.

If the code is not correctly recognised during starting, warning light y (or the symbol on the display) comes on in the instrument panel.

In this case, turn the key back to STOP and then to MAR. If the immobiliser remains active, try the other keys supplied. If the engine still does not start, contact the Fiat service network.

Please note: each key has its own code, which must be stored in the system electronics.

To store new keys (maximum 8), contact the Fiat service network only and bring all keys, the code card, your identity card and the vehicle documents.

The codes of keys not presented during the storage procedure are deleted, to ensure that the engine can no longer be started with any keys that may have been lost or stolen.

Warning light y (or symbol on the display) comes on while driving
  • If warning light(or
the symbol on the display) indicates that the system is carrying out a self-diagnosis (e.g. due to a voltage drop).
  • If warning light(or the
symbol on the display) remains on, contact the Fiat service network.
Applying force
to the key may damage the electronic components inside it.
