Ignition switch
The key has 3 different positions, fig. 16:
- STOP: the engine is off, the key can be removed, and the steering wheel is locked. Some electrical equipment (for example the car radio, central door locking, electronic alarm system, etc.) remains operational.
- MAR: driving position. All electrical equipment is operational.
- AVV: starting the engine.
The starter switch is fitted with a safety mechanism: if the engine fails to start, the key must first be turned back to STOP before the starting procedure can be repeated.

NoteIf the starting device is damaged (for example after a theft attempt), have the function checked by the Fiat service network before driving on.
NoteWhen you leave the vehicle, always remove the key to prevent controls from being operated unintentionally. Remember always to apply the parking brake and, if the vehicle is parked on a slope, engage first gear. Never leave children unattended in the vehicle.
Steering wheel lock EngagingIf the device is in STOP, remove the key and turn the steering wheel until it locks.
DisengagingIf the device is in STOP, remove the key and turn the steering wheel until it locks.
Switching off
NoteAny modifications in the aftermarket with resulting damage to the steering or steering column (e.g. installation of an anti-theft system) which, in addition to reducing system performance and voiding the warranty, can also lead to serious safety problems and a vehicle that does not comply with approval regulations, are strictly prohibited.
NoteNever remove the key while the vehicle is moving.
The steering wheel would automatically lock on the first attempt to steer.
This warning always applies, including when towing the vehicle.
