Power Flow

Energy flow information for your hybrid vehicle is available on the home screen or in the Apps section.

Vehicle Operating Conditions

Power will be delivered to or from the front and rear wheels depending on the operating state and driving conditions.

  • Idle: The vehicle is on and in Park (P). The engine and/or high-voltage battery may be on.
  • EV Drive: The vehicle is on and in Drive (D) or Neutral (N). The high-voltage battery powers the wheels.
  • Hybrid Drive: The vehicle is on and in Drive (D) or Neutral (N). The engine and high-voltage battery power the wheels.
  • Engine Drive: The vehicle is on and in Drive (D) or Neutral (N). The engine powers the wheels.
  • Regenerative Braking: The vehicle is moving in a drive gear and slowing down. Energy captured by the regenerative braking system is returned to the high-voltage battery.

Engine On Due To

The following conditions explain why the engine is running and what you can do to allow all-electric operation.

  • Drive Power: The engine is running because the accelerator pedal is pressed or cruise control is active. Reduce accelerator pedal pressure or turn off cruise control to return to all-electric operation.
  • High Speed: The engine is running because the vehicle speed exceeds the level for all-electric operation. Reduce speed to return to electric operation.
  • Heater Setting: The engine is running because of the heater setting. Reduce or turn off the heater setting to return to electric operation.
  • Neutral Gear: The engine is running because the vehicle is in Neutral (N). Shift out of Neutral to return to electric operation.
  • Cold Engine: The engine is running because it is cold. The vehicle returns to electric operation once the engine has warmed up sufficiently.
  • Battery Charging: The engine is running to charge the high-voltage battery. The vehicle returns to electric operation after the battery is charged.
  • Downshift: Engine is on because the vehicle is in a lower gear. Upshift to return to electric-only operation.
  • Normal operation: Engine is on to optimize vehicle operation. The vehicle returns to electric-only operation when possible.
  • Active engine braking: Engine is on to increase transmission braking. This may occur when Hill Assist is on, when Cruise Control is on, or when you drive without pressing the accelerator pedal. Turning off Hill Assist or Cruise Control may allow the vehicle to return to electric-only operation.
  • High-voltage battery temperature: Engine is on because the high-voltage battery temperature is high or low. This is a normal operating condition. The vehicle returns to electric-only operation when possible.
  • Drive mode: Engine is on because of the selected drive mode. Select an appropriate drive mode for electric-only operation.
