Shift Cable Installation
PROCEDURE
1. Under the vehicle, route the new cable assembly through the access hole and install the guide bracket in place.
2. Move the shift lever (selector) to the “R” position.
3. On the transaxle, connect the control lever with the attached shift cable to the control shaft.
4. Install the new stopper bolt for the lever and secure it by bending the tab of the lock washer.
5. Install the shift cable bracket on the cover, then install the cover assembly on the transaxle.
6. Inside the vehicle, turn the rubber grommet 1/4 turn clockwise and seat the assembly in the support bracket.
7. Turn the ignition on (do not start the engine) and verify that the reverse indicator light is illuminated.
8. If the cable is installed incorrectly, push it forward to the stop, then pull it back one click to the position corresponding to reverse gear engagement.

9. Fit the cable end onto the shift lever bolt, making sure the slot aligns with the rectangular projections of the bolt.
10. Move the shift lever through all positions in turn and verify that the transaxle shifts correctly.
11. Install the remaining components in the reverse order of removal. If necessary, adjust the shift cable.
