The vehicles covered by this Manual are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Before performing any work near the airbag module, steering column or instrument panel, disconnect the SRS to avoid injury from accidental deployment (see Chapter Body Electrical System). SRS wiring can be easily identified by its yellow insulation.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the center console (see Chapter Body).
2. Disconnect the shift cable from the lever assembly (see Section Removal, Installation and Adjustment of Shift Cable).
3. Remove the mounting screws and remove the plastic knob from the lever (there are two screws in total, one on each side of the knob).
4. Remove the transmission position indicator panel.
5. Disconnect the transmission position [switch sensor] indicator lamp.
6. Disconnect the shift lock solenoid valve.

7. Remove the four screws securing the lever base mounting bracket and remove the assembly.

8. Installation is performed in the reverse order.
