Installation of 4-Speed and Automatic Transaxle (AT)
PROCEDURE
1. Honda recommends flushing the ATF cooler and cooler lines with a solvent. Make sure no solvent remains in the cooler lines/passages after flushing. As a precaution, flush the cooler with clean ATF to finish.
2. Before installation, make sure the torque converter hub is fully engaged in the pump.
3. Secure the transmission on a jack and bring it into its normal position (try not to tilt the assembly to avoid the torque converter falling out).
4. Align the torque converter marks made during removal with the drive plate.
5. Make sure both guide pins are in their holes, then carefully slide the transmission onto them, making sure the torque converter engages correctly.
6. Install the four transmission-to-engine bolts and tighten them to the specified torque.
Do not use the bolts to pull the transmission toward the engine. If the assembly cannot be pressed in, determine the cause and eliminate the obstruction.
7. Install the remaining components in the reverse order of removal. When installing the subframe, make sure the alignment marks made during removal are aligned. Tighten the subframe fasteners to the specified torque (see also Specifications in the Suspension and Steering Chapter). Specified torques for the engine mount fasteners are given in the Specifications in the Engine Chapter.
8. Fill the transmission with the required amount of ATF of the specified type (see the Maintenance and Adjustments Chapter). Do not be alarmed if slightly more fluid is needed than specified; the excess fills the torque converter, which is not drained during a normal ATF change.
9. Start the engine, apply the parking brake, and move the selector lever through all positions three times. Make sure the shift cable operates correctly (see the Section Removal and Installation of Shift Lever (Selector) Assembly).
10. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature (transmission in "N" or "P"), then turn off the engine and check the ATF level.
11. Perform a road test, then check the engine/transmission assembly for fluid leaks.
12. If vibrations occur, loosen and retighten the engine mount fasteners to the specified torque (see the Engine Chapter).
13. Perform a wheel alignment.
