Outer CV Joint - Disassembly, Inspection
PROCEDURE
1. Following the instructions in steps 1 through 5, remove the inner CV joint from the drive shaft and disassemble it.
2. If the shaft is equipped with a dynamic damper, mark the position of the outer edge of the damper assembly relative to the shaft with paint, then cut the clamp and remove the damper.
When replacing components, make sure the distance between the inner CV joint boot and the damper is maintained (refer to Specifications).
3. Cut the retaining straps and remove the CV joint boot from the shaft.
The outer CV joint is not serviceable and must not be disassembled or removed from the shaft.
INSPECTION
PROCEDURE
1. Thoroughly wash the inner and outer CV joints in solvent, then dry them using compressed air.
When using compressed air, always wear safety glasses!
Since the outer CV joint is not serviceable, removing old grease and solvent residue from it is difficult, but it must be done with the utmost care.

2. Rotate the joint housing at different angles and carefully inspect the balls, races and bearing cage. If any defects are found, replace the shaft assembly.
