This gauge shows the engine coolant temperature. During normal operation, the gauge reads in the middle of the scale. Under severe conditions, such as very hot weather or prolonged driving uphill, the gauge may approach the red zone. If the needle enters the red zone, pull over and stop the vehicle immediately. For instructions and precautions on checking the cooling system and determining the cause of engine overheating, refer to page 540 (for vehicles with a gasoline engine) and page 542 (for vehicles with a diesel engine).
