Liftgate
Except vehicles sold in South Africa
The liftgate locks or unlocks when the driver's door is locked or unlocked with the key, remote control, master central lock switch, or the lock button on the driver's door.
For vehicles supplied to South Africa
The liftgate lock engages when the driver's door is locked with the key, remote control, master central lock switch, or the lock button on the driver's door.
To lock the liftgate, turn the key clockwise twice, press the rear part of the master central lock switch, or press the unlock button on the remote control twice.

To open the liftgate, press the button, then lift the door.
To close the liftgate, lower it using the interior handle, then press on its lower edge.

The liftgate must be closed while the vehicle is in motion. This prevents damage to the liftgate and the entry of exhaust gases into the vehicle interior. See "Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Hazard" on page 76.
Emergency Liftgate Opening

If the liftgate cannot be unlocked with the central power locking system, it can be unlocked manually. In this case, the door cannot be opened with the door open button.
To open the liftgate, use the lever located on the inside of the door.
To prevent scratches, place a piece of cloth on the upper part of the cover located on the inside of the liftgate, then remove the cover using a small flat-blade screwdriver.

Push the release lever to the right and down, as shown in the illustration.
If it is necessary to open the liftgate manually, this indicates a malfunction. Take the vehicle to an authorized dealer service station for inspection.
