Weighing is the most reliable way to make sure that the weight of the vehicle and trailer does not exceed the permissible values.

Load the vehicle and trailer, then use truck scales or a special tongue load meter to determine the gross vehicle weight, the gross trailer weight, the axle loads of the vehicle, and the vertical load on the trailer hitch. If the load conditions change, determine these values again.
