Preparing the Trailer for Towing
Before towing, perform a pre-trip inspection and check the vehicle and trailer:
• Make sure the vehicle is ready for the trip and that its suspension and engine cooling system are in good working condition.
• Make sure the trailer is ready for the trip and in good working condition.
• Make sure all trailer load ratings do not exceed the maximum permissible values.
• Check that the trailer tongue, safety chains, and other connecting elements between the trailer and the vehicle are securely attached.
• Securely fasten all items carried on the trailer to prevent them from shifting during travel.
• Make sure all exterior lights and brakes on both the trailer and the vehicle are working properly.
• Check that the tire pressure of the vehicle and trailer (including the spare tire) matches the values recommended by the vehicle and trailer manufacturers.
• Check the current traffic regulations on maximum speed for a passenger vehicle towing a trailer. When planning a trip through several countries, find out in advance the local requirements and restrictions regarding towing a trailer with a passenger vehicle, as each country may have its own specific rules.
The maximum speed when towing a trailer is 100 km/h.
