Towing Equipment
Towing a trailer requires special equipment that must match the size of the trailer, the towing conditions, and the characteristics of the cargo being carried.
Obtain information about the trailer and the required equipment from the dealer where you purchase or rent the trailer, and observe all recommendations given in this section of the Owner's Manual. Strictly comply with traffic regulations and other regulatory documents concerning the use of trailers and trailer towing equipment.
Trailer Hitch
The trailer hitch must be securely attached to the body structure of the vehicle.
Information on trailer hitch mounting points is given on page 569.
Safety Chains
Always use safety chains when towing a trailer. Safety chains must be securely attached to the trailer and to the vehicle's trailer hitch. The chains must be crossed under the trailer tongue to prevent the tongue from dropping to the road if it separates from the vehicle's trailer hitch. The chains must be long enough not to interfere with trailer turning, but must not drag on the ground.
Trailer Brake System
If you intend to purchase a trailer equipped with brakes, make sure they have an electric actuation system. The hydraulic service brake system of this vehicle is not designed to be connected to a trailer brake system. Any method of connecting a trailer brake system to the vehicle's hydraulic brake system, however attractive it may seem, will reduce the vehicle's braking efficiency and reduce driving safety.
Trailer Exterior Lighting and Signaling Devices
The trailer lighting system (as well as all other trailer equipment) must comply with the laws of the country in which it is operated. Check the requirements in the region where you will tow the trailer, and use only equipment designed for your vehicle.

Your vehicle is equipped with an electrical connector for connecting the trailer's exterior lights. The connector is located in the cargo compartment, in the area of the left rear combination lamp.
The color coding of the electrical wires and the function of each connector pin are given in the table.
Because the wiring and exterior lighting devices differ between trailers of various types and makes, consult a qualified specialist to install the electrical connector. Incorrect connection of trailer electrical equipment may cause a malfunction of the vehicle's electrical system.
Before connecting the trailer lights to the vehicle's electrical system, be sure to consult an authorized Honda dealer.
Additional Towing Equipment
Special exterior rearview mirrors may be required for towing a trailer. Observe local laws and traffic regulations. If the view through the standard rearview mirrors is inadequate, install special mirrors on the vehicle, even if local laws do not require it.
Ask the seller or the trailer rental location whether any additional equipment is required or recommended for installation on the vehicle.
