Removal

Gasoline is explosive. When working on fuel system components, provide adequate ventilation, do not use open flames, sparking devices or open-flame lights, and do not smoke.
Before removing the fuel tank, drain the fuel from it. Purge the fuel tank of fuel vapor.
Remove the fuel filler cap to equalize the tank pressure with atmospheric pressure.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the rear seat cushion and disconnect the fuel pump connector.

Do not disconnect the fuel filter from the fuel tank unless it is being replaced.

2. Loosen the clamps and disconnect the fuel supply and return hoses from the fuel tank.
3. Disconnect the filler hose and the wide hose from the base of the filler hose.
4. After removing the fuel tank guard and straps, lower the fuel tank slightly and disconnect the fuel level sender connector.
5. Remove the fuel tank.

Cover all openings of the fuel tank to prevent fuel vapor from escaping.
Even an empty fuel tank contains explosive fuel vapor, so be careful. Provide adequate ventilation, do not use open flames, sparking devices or open-flame lights, and do not smoke. Purge the fuel tank of fuel vapor as soon as possible.
