Accelerator Cable and Pedal

1 – cotter pin;
2 – accelerator cable;
3 – bracket;
4 – accelerator switch connector (vehicles with automatic transmission);
5 – bolt, 8–12 N·m;
6 – return spring;
7 – accelerator pedal.

Removal

Accelerator Cable

PROCEDURE

1. Loosen the accelerator cable adjusting nut.

2. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle lever.
3. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the accelerator pedal lever.
4. Remove the two bolts securing the accelerator cable housing to the engine compartment bulkhead and remove the cable from the vehicle.

When servicing the accelerator pedal, observe the following requirements.

PROCEDURE

1. Loosen the accelerator cable adjusting nut, disconnect the accelerator cable from the accelerator pedal lever, and remove the pedal.
2. Remove the accelerator pedal return spring.

3. Remove the cotter pin from the accelerator pedal shaft and remove the accelerator pedal from the bracket.

Inspection

PROCEDURE

1. Check the accelerator cable and cable housing for damage.
2. Check that the accelerator cable moves smoothly inside the housing.
3. Check the accelerator pedal for bending.
4. Check the condition of the return spring.
5. Check the condition of the accelerator cable end fitting.

Installation

PROCEDURE

1. Apply NLGI J310a grease to the pivot points of the accelerator pedal.
2. To prevent vapors and exhaust gases from entering the passenger compartment, apply sealant to the threads of the accelerator pedal bracket bolts.
3. Make sure the accelerator cable has no sharp bends.
4. Check the accelerator cable free play.
5. Install all parts and secure with bolts and nuts, tightening them to the specified torque.
